The significance of Khichda

Khichda is a meal prepared on the 10th of Moharrum by the followers of Imam Hussain. The main ingredients of khichda are meat and broken wheat.

To prepare broken wheat :

Sprinkle some water on regular wheat to make it damp. Lightly break it in a mixer. Dry it in the sun. Rub it with both hands and blow away the outer covering of the wheat. You have broken wheat for the khichda.

@zikril Hi, We use white urad dal and chana dal here. DO NOT GRIND DALS. Cook them with broken wheat in a pressure cooker. ADD A STICK OF CINNAMON FOR MARINATION. okay.

Well, hotdorkage, if you cannot eat meat due to your recent surgery, you may try jackfruit instead. Use it as you would use meat. I pray for your fast recovery from the illness.

Thanks for the nice comments folks. And, also thank you for visiting. The broken wheat hot dorkage, is available in India as "khichde ke gehu". I doubt its availability at your place. But, it is very easy to make some at home. Do try it as I have suggested in this hub. Use less meat if it does not agree with your constitution. Best wishes.

Can you buy wheat pre broken? I still can't eat meat yet after my operation and I usually only use meat in small amounts for flavoring anyway when I do eat it. All your recipes look wonderful. But you should put a picture with a smile in it. I bet you are very beautiful when you smile. :)
